A Clearing Light
This two dimensional  mixed media piece created on masonite board is inspired by a hillside or mountainous landscape. The geographical features are represented here by stones drawn in colored pencil. The negative space created in black is drawn in ink. The background or surrounding color is painted in oil. The painting is meant to depict the quality of light present early in the morning or just before dusk once a storm has passed.  (12" x 30")

Approaching Storm
Also done in pencil, ink and oils on masonite, "Approaching Storm" aims to evoke the magic present just before an afternoon thunderstorm strikes.

Using the same technique, the "Ripening" triptych allowed for the stones to represent ripening fruit or seasonal change.

Celestial Bodies
"Celestial Bodies"  (12" x 48") is an attempt to bring three dimensions to the stone landscape paintings pictured above.  The entire piece is constructed of wood and painted with both oils and acrylics. The black negative space is exactly that.  The wood is cut away.  Below are variations on the same theme, experimenting with color, shape and design.
